Preferred locations let you control where a package can be booked. Tag the Places you work at to a package and the client picks one from a list instead of typing an address. A photographer can offer a handful of favorite outdoor spots. A DJ can limit bookings to the venues they know. It also works for a package that always happens at one address, like a studio session: tag that one Place and the client picks it.
How it works
Preferred locations are built from Places. You tag a Place as a preferred location for one or more packages, then switch the package's Booking Category to a mode that uses preferred locations. During online booking, the location step shows only the Places tagged for the package the client selected.
Two pieces have to be in place. The Place controls which addresses show up. The Booking Category controls whether preferred locations are used at all.
Tag a Place as a preferred location
Once at least one Booking Category is using preferred locations, the Place's page shows a Valid for Packages panel summarizing which packages it applies to. That is the quickest way to confirm the tag took.
Turn on preferred locations for the Booking Category
The two options that use preferred locations:
- Yes, only from preferred locations: the client picks from the tagged Places and cannot enter anything else.
- Yes, show both preferred locations and allow custom: tagged Places show as cards, plus an Other Address card for a custom entry.
The other options on that question do not use preferred locations. See How do I configure my service settings? for what each one does.
If every package in the category is tied to known locations, use only from preferred locations. If some packages go anywhere, use the both option. The outdoor session shows your list of spots, the studio package shows the studio card, and the packages you deliver anywhere still let the client type a venue.
What the client sees
On the location step, the client sees a card for each Place tagged for the package they chose, with its photo and address. They click a card to select it. Even when there is only one Place, the client still clicks it; the address is not filled in automatically.
The same General Settings page holds the rest of the category's booking behavior. See How do I configure my service settings? for a walkthrough of the other options there.
