Will I get a 1099-K for my sales through Check Cherry Payments?

If you process payments through Check Cherry Payments and meet the federal reporting thresholds, you will receive a 1099-K tax form from our payment processor.

What is the reporting threshold for tax year 2025?

The laws are always changing around taxes, so be sure to check with your accountant or bookkeeper, but here are a couple of resources that you may find helpful as well:

Do I still need to report my income and pay taxes if I don't receive a 1099-K?

Yes! You are legally responsible for reporting all income, regardless of the source. A 1099-K only lists the payment received from a specific payment processor, but the IRS expects you to report all income including that received via cash, check, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, and other platforms.

You can run your numbers by going to Sales -> Reporting and choosing either the "Profit & Loss" or the "Payment History" report. Just make sure to set the payment date range to the correct range.

Check Cherry did a video about taxes in 2025. You can check it out here:

For 2025, the federal reporting thresholds are at least $20,000 in gross sales and at least 200 transactions. Some states have lower thresholds that may trigger a 1099-K even if you don't meet the federal requirements.

Checking Your Payment Totals

To see if you're approaching the threshold, check your payment history for the tax year.

ReportingPayment History
Go to Payment History.
Set the date range to cover the full tax year (January 1 - December 31).
Check the totals at the bottom: Payment Applied shows your gross sales amount, and Matching Payments shows your transaction count.

Getting Your 1099-K

If you meet the reporting thresholds, your 1099-K will be available by January 31 for the previous tax year. You can download it from the Documents tab in your Payments Dashboard.

Keep your own payment records throughout the year. The 1099-K shows gross payments received, but you'll need to track expenses, refunds, and other deductions for accurate tax reporting.
