Why doesn't my logo show next to my emails?

When your client opens an email from you, most inboxes show a small round icon next to your name. Sometimes it is a photo or a logo, and sometimes it is a gray silhouette or a single letter. If you have uploaded your logo in Check Cherry and still see the gray icon on a test email, nothing is broken. That icon is not set by Check Cherry.

Where that icon comes from

The icon is drawn by whatever email app the recipient is reading in, not by the platform that sent the message. In Gmail, it comes from one of two places:

  • The sender's Google account photo, when the message is actually sent through that Google account.
  • The recipient's own contact card for your address. If your client has saved you as a contact with a photo, they see that photo. Someone else may see a plain letter for the exact same email.

Neither of those is something we can set on your behalf. The second one lives entirely in your client's account.

Why it is blank on Check Cherry emails

Your messages send from your own verified Check Cherry sending address through our email infrastructure. They do not go out through your Gmail account, so there is no Google profile for Gmail to pull a photo from. The gray icon is the expected result, and it is the same for every platform that sends on your behalf rather than through your personal mailbox.

This is also why the profile photo on your Check Cherry user account does not appear here. That photo is used on your online booking pages, not on outgoing email.

It would only reach some of your clients anyway

Even when a Google profile photo does show, it only shows for people reading in Gmail. Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo, and most other inboxes ignore it completely. So this is never a change your whole client list would see.

What about a logo that works everywhere

There is an industry standard for this called BIMI, which puts a verified logo in that circle across Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo, and a few others. It is a real option, but it is a heavy lift. It requires a domain you own and control, that domain set to the strictest level of email authentication, a logo you hold a registered trademark on, and a paid Verified Mark Certificate that runs over $1,000 per year. Because your Check Cherry messages send from our verified sending domain, BIMI is not something you can turn on from inside your account today.

What to do instead

Put your logo in your email signature. It appears in the body of every message you send, on every device and every email provider, which is broader coverage than the Gmail icon would ever give you. See How do I create or update my email signature? to set it up.
